The 25th Anniversary Exhibition at Neue Galerie New York celebrates the museum's founding in 2001 and its mission to highlight early 20th-century Germanic culture for American and international audiences. The exhibition occupies the entire Museum Mile building and features significant collection pieces, including Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (1907), created with oil, gold, and silver on canvas. It showcases Austrian and German art and design, emphasizing the artistic milieu of Vienna around 1900 and the interplay between fine and decorative arts exemplified by the Wiener Werkstätte. The German collection spotlights key early 20th-century movements, particularly the works of Max Beckmann, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Gabriele Münter, while also prominently featuring the Bauhaus movement, especially in decorative arts, alongside notable contributions from Paul Klee.
