7 Summers

7 Summers is an artistic experiment by Danish artist group Diakron (Amitai Romm, Bjarke Hvass Kure and Aslak Aamot Helm) and artist, photographer and developer Emil Rønn Andersen. Developed at a laboratory complex on the Risø research campus at the Roskilde Fjord—established in the mid-1950s to investigate peaceful uses of nuclear energy at the initiative of Nobel Prize-winning physicist Niels Bohr—the project exposes different plant species to potential future climate scenarios. A film visualises how future summers could affect European plant life, documenting wheat, salt-marsh plants and wild plants from an abandoned field subjected to heat, cold and drought. Their responses were recorded using virtual-production technology and AI-supported workflows developed by Andersen, examining impacts on soil, atmosphere, light, growth and plant health. The exhibition also presents a large-scale sculptural plant work featuring wild and cultivated plants from Korea and China that are being genetically reprogrammed and tested as potential future crops for European agriculture.
