For Berlin Art Week, Achraf Touloub opens his fifth exhibition at Galeria Plan B. Touloub paints in layers that hide as much as they reveal. Figures, landscapes and symbols merge into each other via shifting image planes. Its surfaces refuse a simple reading and instead invite navigation, similar to orientation by starlight: A point is fixed in a restless field that never comes to rest. Shifting between myth, cosmology and the textures of contemporary perception, Touloub sees painting as something closer to a pre-rational instinct. It opens up an access to reality that bypasses the retina and reaches for a potential presence, an alternative dimension of the subconscious.
