Marian Goodman Gallery is delighted to announce 'Pillow Stories', an In Focus presentation dedicated to Annette Messenger. The selection of works presents historical and emblematic pieces, some of which are rarely shown to the public. While the exhibition at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris celebrates animality in her work, this new presentation unveils stories centered on romantic images and intimate secrets. It highlights the mischievous spirit and unconventional materials that have characterized the artist's work since its inception. The works highlight, among other things, his tendency to reuse everyday objects, as illustrated by Histoire des pillows III, 1995–2026, and Les Amoureux, 2016; her taste for puns in Les Lignes de la main, 1988, Mes Ouvrages (Tolerance), 1988–1989, and Spleen, 2025, as well as her exploration of gender stereotypes in Les Qualificatives donated to women, 1972, and Just Married, 2011.
