Architectural Echotones

On the occasion of the Berlin Art Week and as part of the touring exhibition of the 36th Berlin Art Week. Savvy Contemporary presents the project "Architectural Echotones" of the collective Vilanismo. Founded in São Paulo in 2021, the collective of ten Black artists sees itself as an artistic counter-movement that questions historical stereotypes and creates spaces of resistance rooted in Afro-indigenous knowledge systems. The project does not function as an exhibition of finished works, but as a laboratory in which Vilanismo transforms the Berlin spaces into a changing living space, a studio, a gallery and an echo room. At the center are the terms echo, relationship and periphery. Starting from the outskirts of São Paulo and the Wedding, the project explores what cultural work beyond the center means. Installations, paintings, drawings, video works and in-situ performances combine with a public programme and workshops in a curatorial dialogue between Savvy Contemporary and Vilanismo.
