Autumn Knight: I Can't Complain

Institute of Contemporary Arts, The Mall, SW1Y 5AH, London

September 29, 2026 – November 29, 2026

I Can’t Complain is a solo exhibition by New York-based artist Autumn Knight, marking her first major presentation in the UK. The exhibition features a new commission alongside recent works, focusing on the act of complaining—its pleasures, frustrations, and political implications. Knight's interdisciplinary practice incorporates theatre, psychology, improvisation, and social exchange, inviting audiences to explore how power dynamics are negotiated in daily life. The exhibition includes an audio and spatial installation, with a prominent canopy of balloons and architectural elements framing a sound installation that captures conversations about everyday grievances. These discussions reveal how minor complaints can highlight broader social issues. The back gallery showcases earlier video works that involved participant collaboration and the sharing of annoyances. Knight will also present solo performances throughout the exhibition, alongside collaborations with other artists, further engaging with the themes of complaint and exchange.
