Claire de Santa Coloma: Urform

On the occasion of Berlin Art Week 2026, Galerie Friese presents ‘Urform’, the third solo exhibition by the Argentine sculptor Claire de Santa Coloma. The centerpiece is a multi-room, space-related and touchable installation of wooden sculptures. The starting point of her practice is found wood, which the artist processes by hand with as few interventions as possible. The pieces preserve traces of their origin and question materiality, space and perception as well as the relationship of man to his surroundings. The archaic forms are reminiscent of stones, organs or eggs smoothed by water and move on the threshold between natural form and abstraction, object and sculpture. In the tradition of Classical Modernism and inspired by Brâncuși's abstract design language, the works are presented on specially designed pedestals reminiscent of work tables.
