Clemen Parrocchetti (1923-2016, Milan) was a pioneering exponent of Italian feminist art in the 1970s. During the most intense years of the women's movement, she put her artistic work at the service of women's struggle for equality. After her education in painting at the Accademia di Brera, which she completed in 1956, her style developed in the 1960s from existentialist realism to an abstract and surreal visual language. Under the influence of the feminist movement of the early 1970s, she fundamentally changed her practice: She integrated textiles and everyday household items, in particular through embroidery, into her work. Needles, yarn rolls, coils, kitchen utensils, medicines and fabrics became an artistic grammar of domestic work.
