Clemens Krauss: Sediments

The Berlin-based artist Clemens Krauss is known for his pasty paintings, in which he deals with the relationship of the human individual to the mass. In his new series of works ‘Sediments’, he devotes himself for the first time to things, objects and objects. Buildings, surfaces and objects take the place of the human figure and become carriers of temporality, history and memory. Thus, the view of interpersonal relationships shifts to the corporeality of things and distances itself from anthropocentric thinking. Krauss deposits oil paint layer by layer on the canvas and creates relief-like surfaces reminiscent of geological sediments. Like natural deposits, they store time, movement and material. Light and shadow activate the sculptural image bodies, while luminous color remains under the painting layer make traces of earlier states visible.
