She Flickered In and Out of History is a new video and mixed-media installation by interdisciplinary artist Elisa Giardina Papa. The work explores the geological, mythological, and political temporalities of the Mediterranean through the historical and speculative story of an island that emerged from an underwater volcanic eruption in 1831 and vanished six months later. Filmed on Mount Etna and Stromboli, it features a large LED screen, sculptures, and photographs, accompanied by a poem in Sicilian set to an original score. This exhibition is part of a trilogy exploring forgotten Mediterranean histories and reflects on decolonial and queer temporalities.
