Around 20,000 exhibits from the collections of the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin will be presented in the Humboldt Forum. On more than 16,000 square meters, the exhibitions show new perspectives on the cultures of Africa, America, Asia and Oceania. The permanent exhibition of the Ethnologisches Museum illuminates both material and intangible heritage, with exhibits such as an artfully carved assembly house from Palau, impressive boats from Oceania and sound documents from the Berlin Phonogram Archive. The Museum of Asian Art invites visitors to participate in a Japanese tea gathering, experience the beauty of Indo-Islamic gardens, or meditate in front of Buddha statues. The presentation focuses on the history of the collection, religious issues, contemporary art and craft techniques and critically examines the legacy of colonialism and the role of Europe.
