Jean-Luc Mylayne: Reflection

Sprüth Magers Berlin, Oranienburger Straße 18, 10178, Berlin

September 10, 2026 – October 24, 2026

Sprüth Magers presents ‘Reflection’, a solo exhibition by Jean-Luc Mylayne, at Berlin Art Week. The artist dedicates himself to philosophical questions about our place on earth; At the same time, birds and their natural habitats serve as a motif and symbol for him to examine human beings in relation to nature. Each photograph is created in close collaboration with his partner Mylène and is the result of months of patient work on temporality, perception and community. Many of the exhibited images were developed during a residency in Marfa, Texas, where Mylayne picked up the intense blue tones of water, sky and sometimes birds. Through specially made lenses with different focal lengths, the photographs acquire a painterly character; Abrupt shifts between blur and detail as well as the absence of a central perspective guide the gaze looking through the landscape. The chronologically numbered titles only mention the month and year of creation, thus emphasizing time as the fundamental dimension of the work.
