The Hamburger Bahnhof presents the extensive collection of works by the artist Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) in the Kleihueshalle. With 15 key works, the new course, exhibited for the first time in the Kleihueshalle, explores the complex work and reception of Joseph Beuys. In addition to the environment ‘DAS KAPITAL RAUM 1970-1977’ (1980), the works include sculptures, drawings, multiples and groundbreaking actions such as ‘I like America and America likes Me’ (1974). The presentation traces how Beuys' work sustainably questioned the essence, materiality, language and perception of the boundaries and tasks of art. At the same time, she contextualises and compares Beuys’ notion of slow social transformation with historical and contemporary counter-models from Grace Lee Boggs, Angela Davis and Agnes Denes to Donna Haraway. The new permanent presentation takes place on the occasion of the generous donation of the family of the collector Erich Marx. It will be shown with an alternating solo exhibition of a contemporary position starting on 22 March 2023 by the artist Naama Tsabar (* 1982).
