Klemm's presents ‘Return to Content a/b’, the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the 1956-born artist Julia Wachtel in Germany. The exhibition, realized by Jahn & Jahn and Klemm's, shows a far-reaching overview of her work in Munich and Berlin. Quail's paintings in oil, acrylic and silkscreen on canvas take up images of popular culture and examine the effect of our world saturated by images. As an important representative of the Pictures Generation, she is interested in the distribution of images in mass media, advertising and everyday culture. Through appropriation, combination and condensation, it shifts the original logic of the motifs and questions the emotional, political and aesthetic conditions of an image-driven world. Nostalgia, desire, ascension fantasies and fear coexist in an irritating balance. While early works picked up film stars, pin-ups, political figures, pop icons and comic figures, younger works are devoted to the constantly reproducing stream of images of the Internet and the reinforcement by AI-generated images.
