Kyiv Biennial—A Bird That Cannot Land

KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Auguststraße 69, 10117, Berlin

September 10, 2026 – September 13, 2026

The Kyiv Biennial is a nomadic, international project that interweaves artistic, political and social issues. The chapter ›A Bird That Cannot Land‹, which takes place in the KW, consists of an extensive exhibition, live and discourse programme that spans the entire building. Against the backdrop of changing political realities, the exhibition focuses on the concept of a Middle East Europe and its history of wars, colonialism and imperialism. Both the exhibition and the live and discourse programme are dedicated to the question of how we can create meaning and experience belonging in times of wars, insecurity and alienation. The Biennale presents more than 40 international voices of different generations from Berlin and other places, whose works reflect lived experiences characterized by fractures, memories of migration, their affective architectures and historical traces.
