MOCA presents Larry Bell's outdoor installation, Bill and Coo at MOCA’s Nest, specifically commissioned for the Sculpture Plaza at MOCA Grand Avenue. This work creates a public art space while reflecting the geometric forms of the museum's Arata Isozaki-designed building. Generously gifted by MOCA Trustee Carol Appel and her husband David, the installation showcases Bell's long-standing experimentation with glass, featuring luminous reds in shades like habanero, cerise, hibiscus, and carmine. The title references the 1948 film Bill and Coo, which features trained birds. This sculpture marks the seventh work by Bell in MOCA’s permanent collection, reinforcing the museum's dedication to collecting Los Angeles-based artists and complementing its collection of works by other Light and Space movement artists, including Robert Irwin, Craig Kauffman, and James Turrell.
