Lucy Dodd's solo exhibition, The good, the true and the beautiful, at Sprüth Magers, London, centers on the figure of Diana, the huntress and celestial body, reflecting both personal and collective significance for the artist. Dodd connects her grandmother, named Diana, and Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales, exploring themes of autonomy and societal constraints. Recently relocated to the Moray Coast in Scotland, Dodd incorporates local materials into her work, including peat from the Findhorn River, copper ink, spirulina, cochineal, and local herbs, creating a palette that merges terrestrial and cosmic elements. For the first time, she employs circular formats, merging various interpretations into a single geometry that represents a lunar disc, a huntress' target, an eye, and a breast. Indexical traces, such as a child's footprint and brush impressions, ground the mythological imagery, enhancing the exhibition's exploration of identity and nature.
