The Gemäldegalerie presents an important collection of European painting from the 13th to the 18th century, which has been continuously expanded since 1830. Masterpieces include works by van Eyck, Bruegel, Dürer, Raffael, Titian, Caravaggio, Rubens, Rembrandt and Vermeer. The new building at the Kulturforum offers 7,000 square meters of exhibition space with a tour of almost 2 km, which leads through 72 halls and cabinets. The collection focuses on German and Italian painting from the 13th to the 16th century as well as Dutch painting from the 15th to the 16th century. Major artists such as Konrad Witz, Albrecht Dürer and Cranach are represented. The hall with Rembrandt paintings is particularly highlighted, as the collection includes 16 works by the artist. In addition, Italian, French, German and English paintings of the 18th century are shown in six rooms, with works by Canaletto, Watteau, Pesne and Gainsborough. Around 1,000 masterpieces are on display in the main gallery.
