Gagosian, Madison Avenue, Madison Avenue 980, 10075, New York City

April 25, 2026 – August 28, 2026

Gagosian presents a significant exhibition of key works by Marcel Duchamp to inaugurate its new ground-floor space at 980 Madison Avenue. Opening on April 25, 2026, the exhibition features iconic readymades, marking their return to the site of their American debut in a 1965 exhibition at Cordier & Ekstrom Gallery. This event coincides with Duchamp’s first retrospective in the U.S. since 1973 at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The exhibition includes readymades produced in 1964 with Italian gallerist Arturo Schwarz, as many originals have been lost or destroyed. Notable works include Roue de bicyclette (Bicycle Wheel) (1964, after 1913 lost original), Fountain (1964, after 1917 lost original), L.H.O.O.Q. (1964, after 1919 original), Porte-bouteilles (Bottle Rack) (1964, after 1914 lost original), and Boîte-en-valise (1935–49; contents 1935–41). These pieces reflect Duchamp's exploration of artistic integrity, authorship, and originality.
