Metaxy : Zwischen Zerstörung und Wiederaufbau

Wars, conflicts and ecological disasters are destroying cities and habitats worldwide. The exhibition ‘Metaxy : Between Destruction and Reconstruction" focuses on the uncertain period between destruction and reconstruction, in which it remains open how societies deal with loss, guilt and memory. The focus is on questions of return, ownership and historiography: Who is allowed to return, who owns the soil, what story is told? The exhibition combines a self-examination of the Hansaviertel as a historical site of reconstruction after 1945 with a global perspective on works by artists and spatial practitioners who deal with war, conflict and ecological catastrophes. The three thematic areas of houses, floors and times are extended by symposia and a discursive, performative program. Artist talks, film screenings, performances, scenic readings and musical interludes take place in the exhibition halls. An extensive mediation program accompanies the project.
