Michael Sailstorfer: Pull the Rug

Galerie Judin presents ‘Pull the Rug’, Michael Sailstorfer’s first solo exhibition in the gallery. For Berlin Art Week 2026, the artist is developing a spectacular and disturbing site-specific installation. In the face of political, economic, technological and ecological certainties that have become fragile, Sailstorfer translates the experience of permanent change into a spatially and sensually experiential experimental arrangement. For many years he has expanded the concept of sculpture to include movement, time, sounds, smells and disappearance. In ‘Pull the Rug’, visitors are literally deprived of the ground under their feet: At regular intervals, an employee removes a stone from the floor of the first showroom and guides it through a narrow slit into an inaccessible second room. There, a specially developed apparatus accelerates the stone and hurls it against a wall.
