The work of Nika Kutateladze (*1989, Georgia) deals with the consequences of migration and focuses on the rural mountain villages of the region of Guria, his Georgian homeland. With motifs such as abandoned houses, found materials, animals, and ghostly human figures, he explores the fragility of memory, the disappearance, and the fragile connection between people and the places they left behind. The works, mostly painted on wooden panels, are linked to the material traditions of Georgian Orthodox painting and combine them with a de-saturated, restrained color.
