Based on the observation that the ‘East’ increasingly serves as a cultural, aesthetic and political projection surface, the multi-part exhibition, discourse and publication project ‘Projections to the East’ addresses the ideological attributions linked to the terms ‘East’ and ‘West’. International artists, scientists and authors deal with historical and current lines of conflict - from GDR memory politics to anti-Semitism and post-socialist transformations to current geopolitical tensions. The focus is on how the dichotomy of ‘East’ and ‘West’ structures our present. Two exhibitions in the n.b.k. and the Schinkel Pavilion are complemented by a publication, a project website and an extensive discourse programme.
