The multi-part exhibition, discourse and publication project ‘Projections to the East’ examines how the ‘East’ functions as a cultural, aesthetic and political projection surface and which ideological attributions are associated with the terms ‘East’ and ‘West’. International artists, scientists and authors deal with historical and current lines of conflict, including GDR memory politics, anti-Semitism, post-socialist transformations and current geopolitical tensions. Video and film works, photography as well as print graphics will be shown. The central question is how the dichotomy of "East" and "West" structures the present. Two exhibitions in the n.b.k. and the Schinkel Pavilion are complemented by a publication, a project website and an extensive discourse programme. The project of the Neue Berliner Kunstverein is being developed in cooperation with the Schinkel Pavillon and was conceived by Fabian Bechtle and Leon Kahane.
