As part of Berlin Art Week, Walter Storms Galerie presents a retrospective of Raimund Girke (1930–2002), which serves as a personal homage to the artist. The exhibition brings together selected works from different periods of Girke's career, revealing his consistent engagement with the color white. Through multilayered surfaces, rhythmic brush structures, and subtle gradations of white, gray, and blue, he developed a form of painting marked by great concentration, precision, and quiet intensity. With his "Fundamental Painting," Girke explored questions of light, materiality, perception, density, and reduction. Over several decades, he created a distinctive visual language whose clarity and calm continue to demonstrate remarkable contemporary relevance. Walter Storms and Raimund Girke shared a close professional collaboration and longstanding friendship from the early 1980s onward, with the gallery mounting numerous exhibitions of the artist's work and continuously supporting his practice over many decades.
