Robert Rauschenberg Important Early Works from the Cy Twombly Foundation

Gagosian presents an exhibition featuring six significant early works by Robert Rauschenberg from the Cy Twombly Foundation, coinciding with the centennial of Rauschenberg’s birth. This exhibition, opening on April 25, complements a concurrent display of Marcel Duchamp's works in the gallery's new ground-floor space. Rauschenberg and Twombly's artistic journey began in 1951 at the Art Students League of New York, leading them to Black Mountain College and travels across Italy, Morocco, and Spain. The showcased works are pivotal to Rauschenberg's early development, reflecting the deep friendship and exchange of ideas between the two artists. Highlights include one of Rauschenberg’s earliest surviving sculptures, an assemblage from 1950 preserved by Twombly, and Untitled (1950), a life-size photogram recognized as a key piece from Rauschenberg's collaboration with Susan Weil prior to their marriage.
