Salim Green: Sugarshack

Salim Green's works insist on the uncertain and the inner. They elude a straight line, firm meaning and unambiguous attribution; Breaks and shifts that produce physical experience become visible. In a new installation, Green focuses on architectures and rituals that have shaped the social life and history of Waterloo, Iowa, the city where his family's paternal side comes from. Speculative thinkers and concepts such as dark forest theory serve as models for relational politics, black experience, and the risks of visibility. Green transfers traces of geographically located communities, spaces and stories to Berlin. Orientation therefore not only determines where we are, but also arises from the directions we take: From how we arrive at places and how places are shaped by the bodies that inhabit them.
