*Trip the Light Fantastic* is Sarah Gamble’s first solo exhibition with Derek Eller Gallery, presenting a new body of paintings that move between abstraction and representation to create imaginative, otherworldly scenes. Drawing on John Milton’s celebratory phrase, the exhibition evokes a joyful, almost hallucinatory atmosphere in which ancient rock formations, cosmic skies, lush gardens, and fantastical architectures appear in states of transformation. Gamble describes her process as exploring time travel, transcendence, pre-life, and inner life, often depicting forms as if they are breaking apart or reassembling into new energies. A recurring motif in the exhibition is a series of structures hidden behind dense foliage, where illuminated windows glow like eyes or stars. In works such as *Spider*, these windows suggest both interior worlds and distant constellations, while Gamble’s careful rendering of branches, leaves, and crystal-like panes gives the images a luminous, dreamlike quality. Based in Philadelphia, Gamble has exhibited widely and received major residencies and fellowships, and this show introduces her distinct visual language to a new audience.
