Tadeusz Kantor: Der einzige Weg

Der einzige Weg" activates a new exhibition and performance space on Revolution Square beside the Maxim Gorki Theater, extending the theater into public space. The project presents photographic, filmic and text-based works, live transmissions and performative interventions. Historical materials from Tadeusz Kantor's artistic context are connected with new performances by the Gorki ensemble, using Kantor's texts, images and theater concepts as starting points for contemporary situations. The opening presentation features a photograph by Eustachy Kossakowski from Kantor's 1967 "Panoramic Sea Happening" on the Baltic coast, including the "Sea Concert," in which Edward Krasiński conducted the waves before a seated audience. Enlarged on the wall, the archival image enters the urban space and reconsiders the relationship between theater, street, chance, memory and spectators. Kantor's text "Der einzige Weg" accompanies the presentation in Polish and English. Performative interpretations draw on texts, memories and materials assembled by Bogdan Renczyński, a longtime member of Cricot 2, while a film by Günter Mahlow adds a documentary perspective.
