Berlin is a place of constant movement and negotiation where artistic, political and migrant paths meet. On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart presents a new collection presentation on the Berlin art scene in global dialogue from 1989 to the present day. More than 70 works by more than 50 artists, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and video installations, reflect Berlin's myth of hedonism and subculture in an international context. Berlin is associated with the historical division of the city, competing narratives and the complexity of different affiliations. Art that originates in Berlin is at the same time a reflection of world political events. International artists living and working here make Berlin a microcosm of global political movements and crises. The new collection presentation with works by Cemile Sahin, Katharina Grosse, Mona Hatoum, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Katharina Sieverding, Thomas Struth, Danh Vo and many more is dedicated to this interplay of art with the city. For the new collection presentation, Hamburger Bahnhof is continuing its long-standing exchange with the Federal Art Collection. The presentation of the collection is supplemented by a number of new acquisitions. Well-known major works by Robert Rauschenberg or Isa Genzken can be seen with rarely and in part never before shown works.
