The American Wing at 100

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Ave, 10028, New York City

July 1, 2026 – December 31, 2027

The American Wing’s 100th-anniversary reinstallation, opening in November 2024, presents The Met’s collection of American art and design across three floors in newly interpreted galleries. Spanning the mid-17th to mid-20th century, with some contemporary works, the presentation highlights connections across the Wing’s increasingly hemispheric holdings and focuses on storylines that feel relevant today. Since its founding in 1924, the American Wing has grown from a collection centered on furniture, silver, ceramics, glass, textiles, and architectural fragments into a much broader collection that includes North American makers as well as major holdings of American painting, sculpture, and works on paper. Now displayed in more than 75 galleries, these works are shown alongside recent acquisitions, select objects from other parts of the Museum, and important loans. Grounded in expanded scholarship and diverse curatorial and community voices, the reinstallation offers a fresh, more inclusive view of American art, history, and culture.
