The Everythingists, Es Devlin

Es Devlin's exhibition, inspired by Natalia Goncharova's 1926 backdrop for The Firebird, explores the concept of 'everythingism' through a dynamic interplay of dance, sound, and visual art. The installation features dancer Joshua Shanny-Wynter, whose movements are choreographed by Botis Seva, performed within a space defined by enlarged iPhone boxes that reflect the architecture of Stravinsky’s score and V&A East Storehouse crates. Accompanied by a soundtrack from Polyphonia, Devlin recites texts including Goncharova’s manifesto, Cory Doctorow’s reflections on centaurs, Clark Ashton Smith’s poem Centaur, and Adrienne Rich’s Centaur’s Requiem. The artwork is animated every 90 seconds, with Devlin's voice and the horn theme from Stravinsky’s composition symbolizing transcendence and the return of light after chaos. This exhibition encapsulates the fusion of sculpture, music, performance design, poetry, and painting, embodying the essence of 'everythingism.'
