Night Gallery presents *Portraits 2019–2026*, Tyler Matthew Oyer’s most ambitious photographic installation to date, alongside the release of his fifth portrait book, *Portraits 2025*. The work spans 360 small photographs from the artist’s archive and wraps the gallery in a continuous horizon of portraits, creating a piece that feels both panoramic and intimate. Oyer’s “social photography” captures people as they are, without staging or direction, from cultural icons like Beyoncé and Herbie Hancock to family, mentors, and collaborators. Installed at a fixed height and arranged like a musical score, the sequence is deeply personal and singular, turning individual images into a larger reflection on culture, relationships, and shared history.
