In the solo exhibition Fornication – Kiss the Devil’s Arse by Itchi Fleischer, art historical references are strongly related to Christian iconography in order to question patriarchal power structures, fear and desire. The exhibition confronts the viewers with centuries of oppression of women and queer people by the church. Fleischer reinterprets the biblical theme of the Last Judgment in the oil painting The Parable of the Blessed and Cursed (2026) by appearing in several roles at once and abolishing the ecclesiastical hierarchies. The exhibition is divided into thematic spaces that thematize the binary juxtaposition of sheep and goat. Fleischer refers to medieval doom paintings and the depiction of Agnus Dei, as well as the associations between the satanic goat, witch hunts and sodomy. The multi-layered examination of Christian history raises the question of the relationship between prayer and sacrifice in the context of patriarchal structures.
