A major component of the Luce Center for American Art, this 5,000-square-foot Visible Storage and Study Center offers an inside look at how museums work and provides access to extensive American collections. While only about 350 works are displayed in the adjacent American Art gallery, this facility gives open access to approximately 2,000 American objects held in storage, available for viewing and research by students, scholars, and the general public. Glass-walled bays contain nearly six hundred paintings on rolling racks, while large glass vitrines hold historical American sculpture, decorative arts including pewter, Tiffany glass, furniture, silver, and Brooklyn-made ceramics, alongside Native American and Spanish colonial objects. Three rotating exhibition areas provide focused examinations of different art historical themes.
