Görlitz-born artist Ulrike Drobniewski discovered her passion for painting during a Rügen holiday in 2009. Since then, she has devoted herself with great pleasure to nature and landscape painting. Her work focuses on water, sea and coastal landscapes – symbols of peace, movement and the close connection between people and nature. Especially the diverse shades of blue and light of the sea characterize her paintings and give them a special atmosphere. The artist is not only concerned with the representation of scenic beauty. At the same time, her works want to draw attention to man's responsibility towards nature. The respectful treatment of the environment, water and natural resources is a recurring theme of her artistic work. By experimenting with different materials such as watercolour and acrylic paints, sand, plaster, structural pastes and especially Rügen chalk, works with a living surface and natural depth are created. The use of the Rügen chalk also connects the images with the landscape and coasts of the island of Rügen – a region whose nature and vastness inspire many of her works. The exhibition Water, Waves, Wind and Mee(h)r invites you to re-perceive the beauty and power of nature and at the same time reflect on its protection.
