Vernissage 29 May 19:00; Finissage 14 Jun 19:00. Marlene Jachmann, Brigitta Friedrich, Jens Hunger, and Sabine Hoffmann — four artists united by their close connection to Wedding. Each of them shaped the Kolonie Wedding in their own way, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. While Marlene Jachmann created the largest artwork in the Soldiner Kiez with her facade painting and directed Eiswürfel, Sabine Hoffmann and Jens Hunger presented their works in various spaces throughout the neighborhood, including Kamine & Wein, Spor Klübü, and Artport. The latter was run by the artist Brigitta Friedrich until 2010 alongside the project space Backyard. Although some of these spaces no longer exist, the artists’ creative drive remains unbroken. Jens Hunger creates partly surreal scenes in oil, ink, and pencil works that oscillate between the wondrous and the threatening. Brigitta Friedrich produces pixel-like images from cut plastic drinking straws, balancing between figuration and abstraction, giving portraits and landscapes a spatial presence. Marlene Jachmann experiments in her screen prints and facade works with form, surface, and spatial effect. Sabine Hoffmann explores themes such as consumerism, mass manipulation, alienation, and surveillance in her vividly colored and boldly graphic oil paintings. Fittingly for the anniversary year, the four artists are coming together again in Wedding. But rather than simply looking back, they are presenting a mix of older and current works at the Prima Center Berlin.
