Carole Feuerman | I Am Mine, Without Permission

Ethan Cohen Gallery presents I Am Mine, Without Permission, the first solo exhibition of pioneering sculptor Carole Feuerman. The exhibition brings together formative works spanning the 1970s through early 1990s, featuring fragmented torsos, isolated limbs, and psychologically charged reliefs that reveal an artist pushing boundaries of realism, embodiment, and feminine selfhood. Created during a moment of radical experimentation, these works fracture and crop the body rather than presenting it as idealized totality. Hands clutch fabric, torsos press through walls, bodies recline incomplete yet deeply present. At a time when discussions of women's autonomy and sexuality entered public consciousness, Feuerman approached the body with unusual candor, challenging prevailing representation conventions. Works such as Hand on Bra, Three Hands, and Suspenders collapse distinctions between sculpture, object, and lived body.
