Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
We are artists who mix the unmixable and work in any genre and direction, they have no style of their own and each new work has no obvious connection Why did we turn to “The Magic Mountain” by Thomas Mann? (Especially since it’s foolish to do this work for free in the centenary year of the novel.) The thing is, we see ZauberBerg not as the telling of a story, but as a scattering of triggers for existential events. In our view, all these events and their totality may signal something beyond our visible world, in the ideal world. One can spend a lifetime trying to build a tunnel through the Magic Mountain to the true world from fragments, random images, sounds, smells, etc. Or, like Hans Castorp, at some moment, just give up. We’ll try to transfer some of these triggers (there seem to be an unlimited number in the novel, each reader finds their own) into the space of real contemporary Berlin. We’re not telling you anything, we’re just triggering you. Why do we call it a play? Because we don’t really care. To call it an installation seems just dumb. A play without actors is easier to imagine than a performance without performers. Actually, we claim to have invented a new genre. We don’t take money from “spectators”, we demand effort.
