Geteiltes Leben. Kunst und Migration in Berlin

Your roots are there—your branches are here …" sets the tone for this exhibition, which invites visitors to reconsider Berlin as a city shaped by intertwined artistic and migration histories. Presenting artistic positions from the 1970s to the present, it brings together rarely shown works from the Berlin Museum collection and selected loans addressing exile, everyday life and self-empowerment. Archival materials and audio interviews with artists add transnational perspectives to Berlin's history. The exhibition examines the traces left by migration and exile in Berlin's art, differences between East and West Berlin, and the importance of networks, collective spaces and self-organised structures. Paintings, prints, films and sculptures by Cecilia Boisier, Santos Chávez, Ximena Ferrer Pizarro, Evelyn Kuwertz, Ertekin Özcan, Minh Duc Pham, Núria Quevedo, Chetna Vora and Hanefi Yeter are shown. Guided tours, creative workshops and a storytelling salon accompany the exhibition. Curated by Christine Heidemann and Aurora Rodonò, with Pia Dressler and Antonia Welch Guerra.
