Kreuzberg: Kunst und Migration seit 1960

In hardly any other place did the social and cultural upheavals in West Germany of the 1960s and 1970s come to light as clearly as in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Through recruitment agreements with Italy, Greece, Turkey and other countries as well as the increasing labour migration, changes that shaped the German reality became visible here. The group exhibition is dedicated to the diverse, hitherto hardly appreciated cultural production around labour migration and shows how artists in Kreuzberg reacted to the tensions and questions of their time. More than 100 historical and current works from film, painting, photography, installation and performance focus on the realities of life of migrant workers and subsequent generations. To this day, they address relevant struggles for co-determination and equal treatment and illustrate the international significance of Kreuzberg's cultural production.
