KUNST im WESTEND e.V., Spandauer Damm 130, 14050, Berlin

September 11, 2026 – September 20, 2026

Lu Yang's 3D animations and installations explore the relationships between body and consciousness, spirituality and science, as well as technology and the limits of being human. The hospital is a significant place for the artist, characterized by childhood experiences in emergency rooms, where he experienced the fragility of the body. For Kunst im Westend e.V., Lu Yang created a site-specific installation in the historic Kochhaus of the DRK Kliniken Berlin Westend. Discarded hospital beds are arranged in the main hall; Above each bed, small screens with headphones allow protected viewing of videos while lying down, shielded from external glances. This voluntary, intimate viewing experience combines the works Doku The Self and Doku The Flow with the hospital bed, the body of the audience and Doku's digital body. Topics such as life, death, identity and transformation appear as private dream states or moments of introspection. Lu Yang works at the intersection of 3D animation, immersive installation and digital technologies and lives and works between Shanghai and Tokyo.
