The exhibition by Mirae kh Rhee questions the static presentation of objects in museums. The artist examines how and why collections are created and what messages they convey. It illuminates the eventful history of collection objects and their creators, which is characterized by human mobility. Rhee, who works interdisciplinary and research-based and works in Germany, California and South Korea, focuses in her art on collecting practices, forced migration and cultural appropriation, based on her diasporic identity. The presentation is part of a long-term project that looks at curiosity cabinets from the perspective of transnational feminism and decolonizing approaches. Rhee criticizes established collection narratives and analyzes elitist concepts that construct power and identity. Visitors are invited to reflect on their own collecting practice.
