Susanne Kriemann . Im Fieber der Sonne flattern Schmetterlinge im Bauch

In her exhibition, Berlin-based artist Susanne Kriemann (*1972) traces the atomic and industrial age to the immediate present. The focus is on landscapes of former uranium mining areas in Saxony, Thuringia and Limousin, France, where radiation continues to affect soils and plants to this day. The work series ‘Pechblende’ produces photographs without a camera or external light source: Radioactive substances act directly on photographic film. Kriemann also investigates residues from heavy industry such as slag, which was used as filling material in Berlin's Gründerzeit houses and in her own studio. Landscape and architecture enter into a dialogue about the material after-effects of industrial exploitation. The exhibition presents Kriemann's expanded understanding of photography, which incorporates material and processes alike. She asks how hidden effects become perceptible and what knowledge can emerge from the attention to this heritage. The presentation will take place as a double exhibition with Stelios Kallinikous exhibition as part of the After Nature . Ulrike Crespo Photography Prize 26" at C/O Berlin for the first time.
