Microscope is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2010 by artists-curators Elle Burchill and Andrea Monti. It focuses on risk-taking artists, from emerging to established, whose work spans moving image, sound, performance, photography, and digital art. Beyond exhibitions, Microscope hosts a weekly event series with screenings, performances, readings, lectures, and sound works, bridging the gap between the gallery’s “white box” setting and the “black box” of performance and film venues. The gallery was created to support time-based art in the format that best fits each artist’s intent. Microscope has also collaborated with major institutions including the Whitney Museum, Centre Pompidou, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, and the Paul Klee Museum. In 2021, it moved from Bushwick, Brooklyn to its current Manhattan location at 525 West 29th Street.
